Lhasa Apso Allergy Problems ?

Question:
Lhasa Apso Allergy Problems ?

Answer:
Looking for suggestions to deal with self-chewing & scratching problems,
4-year old male. We had allergy testing done, which showed many allergic reactions to food, plant pollens and fibers. Have totally changed his diet, and given allergy shots for last year. It got better for awhile, now seems really bad again with latest round of serum. He is not lonesome, because my husband is retired. We take him to the groomer every two weeks, who uses a special dog shampoo for sensitive skin. We keep his body fur short. I think we should stop the serum (monthly shots now), put the plastic "lamp shade" back on and dust him with Gold Bond Medicated Powder, which quickly heals & soothes jock rash and diaper rash. The vet told me not to use it. A friend had a sharpei with allergy problems. Switched food to Pedigree dry dog food in the Yellow bag, and says it really helped. Anyone tried this? I use Gold Bond on my dog's hotspots. It helped a great deal to keep it dry and itch free. Why did your vet say not to use it? Any reason given? I had switched my guys to Pedigree and that is when the hotspots started. I have recently switched back to Dog Chow, which they both ate for years with no trouble. Allergies can be huge trouble and a lot of work. You may want to check out the book, "Pet Allergies, An Epidemic". You can purchase it online at www.ruffstuff.net It is a must have for any dog with allergies. Are you feeding an all natural preservative free food? There are many natural products that can help.
